A surveillance video obtained by the New York Daily News from a Bronx apartment building shows an NYPD officer shooting a woman's pet dog in a stairway almost as soon as the dog approaches him.
The woman, Yvonne Rosado, said that her 4-year-old pitbull Spike did bark when it heard the police officer outside the door, but was wagging its tail in a playful way when it slipped past her into the hallway and approached him. The cop, who already had his gun drawn, shot and killed the dog almost immediately before heading down the stairs.
As you can see on the video (below), a distraught Rosado went down the stairs after him and took a few swings at the officer after the shot. WARNING: this is a video of a dog being fatally shot.
The officer was actually responding to a domestic disturbance at Rosado's neighbor's apartment, but Rosado opened the door to see what was going on, which is when Spike slipped out. Hearbreakingly, Rosado told reporters that she was in her apartment dancing with Spike, who liked to stand up on his back legs while they danced to Kid Cudi, when she heard the commotion outside.
The NYPD told the News it was reviewing the shooting, while Rosado said she was planning to file a grievance with the city's Civilian Review Board.
