That certainly played a part but I think its more based on party lines. Those same people that bought because they thought Obama was going to enact bans felt the same way about Hillary or any other Democrat getting in office. With a Republican stronghold everywhere, theres no fear for any bans so people aren't rushing to beat new legislation.
