The only people surprised by this is people who wanted to lump everyone who speaks Spanish under one easy category.. such as the DNC who wanted to "capture and acquire" the hispanic monolith which doesn't exist
Only Mexicans, Central Americans and Dominicans are nonwhite. Every been to Spain? Many of them would not be distinguishable from French or Irish if you didnt hear them speak. People from Spain, Ricans, and South Americans are white
Someone from DR who looks like David Ortiz and someone from Spain that looks like Javier Bardim only have one thing in common which is their main spoken language, which is only a big deal to your average American who has never been anywhere and sees the world as American/English vs. "exotic/foreign/ethnic". If someone said you have alot in common with a cac KKK leader from West Virginia who also speaks English you would realize how preposterous this idea is
