The reparations debate has already gone national and you're oversimplifying the moment. Trump and white backlash is not entirely about Obama. Moreover, Obama represented something different and politically scarier than reparations which is why the Republicans are not scared to flirt with the reparations issue right now.
They know they aren't giving them and that the Democrats don't want to, so they feel they can use it as a wedge issue and call out the white liberals on their faux racial progressivism. It's just white supremacists arguing over what their perfect white supremacist society looks like, in either case, we are not equal partners in those outlooks.
This means that we have to change the paradigm up to the point where white progressives have to decide when they are ready to take up arms with us or against us. White liberals got to hide behind Obama, but Trump makes the battle lines clear and that makes many white and even black liberals uncomfortable. They want a return to soft, charitable racism. The only way we can move forward in any direction is by being clear where everyone stands. Black America is not playing games anymore and we're making it clear that our group and specificity is a thing like every other group and it's not going to be ignored because it makes white America uncomfortable.
