There's no wrong way to take a vacation. I don't know him and it's someone else telling his story.
For all I know this man works 16 hours a day and barely sleeps when he's not on paid time off. When he doesn't have anywhere he has to be, his body just basically shuts down and tells him that it's time to finally rest.
His whole lifestyle is unhealthy, but like many people in America he may not have a choice. It might be down to having to live in a smaller (but more affordable) location and enduring constant racism or hope that he can get a different job with better hours and more time for him to go to the gym, sleep, enjoy hobbies etc.
