Actually they are extremely impressed if you start speaking their language in their accent. Not just Chinese, but Koreans and Japanese too. They are extremely aware of how hard it is to transition between the two speech types.

If you did it in Korea town or China town there is very high odds a crowd would form around you.

It's not just the accent but the (language+accent combo) that makes people amazed.
