Idk about that, small ball is dying right before our eyes. The Warriors, who have been the pinnacle team of the small ball era, have been getting punished this year when they go small because the league is catching up. Houston's getting away with it in the regular season but I think the same thing will happen to them. I think getting the right type of big tandem for the future is still what you want to do.
Doncic is a complete player but he's not an athlete and might not do well on the defensive end in the NBA. His ceiling is lower than everyone in the top 5 IMO but first day out of the draft he might be the best outside of Bagley. Porter Jr. is advertised as a combo forward with a handle and jumper but I haven't seen anything that makes me believe he'll be beating anyone off the dribble in the NBA. If he can then he's a star.
But if you want a surefire player that will be all-star level players in 3 years or so it'll be Ayton, Bamba and Bagley. Ayton's flaws are forgivable especially if he's paired with a high energy big to cancel out his motor issues, I think he would actually be a great fit next to Collins. Bamba not as much but Gobert proves that having an old school defensive anchor still works. I'd love to see him in Chicago. Bagley would be worst case scenario for the Hawks because he's a PF and him and Collins wouldn't go together.
