They actually had A list celebrities back in the BET Awards like the old days...Dre, Ciara, Kevin Hart, Jamie Foxx, Kirk Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Snoop,Mariah Carey.... the 106 and Park tribute etc.

They got it right this year because BET is no longer relevant to a certain audience so might as well lean into nostalgia and cater to older audiences. They still sprinkled in some new generation people like Glorilla but for the most part this was a show for the older millennials and above.

I'd make the argument that it was still very women centered.

The first award was Best female hip-hop artist and there was a tribute to black women at some point.
