Looking to see if I can get some help and also if I can help others (I've worked in Journalism, non-profits, healthcare implementation & global supply chain).

I am currently looking to see if I can transfer internally from implementation to product manager.

I see the qualifications vary from employer to employer:

Basic Requirements:

• 2+ years of experience in a product management (or similar) role at a technology company
• Compelling stories of success & delivering results in your past roles
• The ability to think through complex problems, break them down, create a plan, & lead a team in completing said plan
• Someone with empathy for others like internal stakeholders, providers, & patients
• A strong communicator who can express their ideas & quarterback a plan to remote team members

Preferred Requirements:

• Experience in researching and signing new technology or commercial partners
• Familiarity with B2B SaaS products
• Familiarity with agile development practices

• 3+ years experience (preferably more) in product management for a SaaS Enterprise Software product
• Familiarity with the martech space is a strong plus
• Product Owner mindset with experience in the day-to-day of managing sprints and backlogs, thinking about how an overall feature breaks down into distinct stories, managing the day-to-day of executing on those stories, making requirements decisions, making scope tradeoffs, etc.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You can handle multiple projects simultaneously and know when to push for optimal scope and designs and when to accept practical compromises. You handle constructive feedback well
• Ability to assimilate customer requirements, design appropriate solutions, and translate requirements into detailed product specifications
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills
• Exceptional decision-making skills
• Technical capacity - you should be able to communicate with the engineering team on tactical technical decisions

• 5+ years of experience working on software and technical products
• 2+ years of experience working as a software product manager
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsStrong academic background, preferably with a degree in a technical discipline

Desirable experience & skills

• Experience working with data analytics platforms and technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, NiFi, and more
• Knowledge of and experience with the services offered by the major public cloud vendors, such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure
• Experience building highly scalable and performant data processing services
• Experience in a B2B environment

My company moved me into a consultant role part-time in addition to my normal duties. The way it was explained to me sounds like the same mumbo jumbo in these job descriptions.

I'm willing to bet these types of jobs are high turnover low reward type gigs. Where they run you into the ground for chump change.

I was hired to do internal security and only help out consulting occasionally. But that's changed to doing consulting damn near full-time. In my opinion they're getting over by not increasing headcount internally by having me do both jobs. I'll probably quit rather than constantly having my job duties change. Since I'm being asked to do things I don't have much experience with so it takes twice as long to learn it then apply it. Companies will really try to take advice during this Pandemic anyway possible.

Are the bold the only skills you currently possess? Since it's internal, why not just chat it up with the hiring manager and let them know your interest?

Actually, the bold is what I do not possess. And that listing was for a different company. I work for a start up so rules are developing, especially once the product grows and you hire people with grays on their head.

Got it! I understand now. The shyt part about "the game" is your job title defines you. Your title could be developer, but have similar duties to a product owner at a another company. That's why I feel certifications are important because its a tangible way to display ability and experience without necessarily having the title. I would check these certifications out:
