Sounds like Sean Baker did his thing again with Anora. Haven’t seen Mikey Madison in anything really since Scream and Better Things so I’m glad to see her get her leading shine here. Best actress buzz? Can’t wait.

Great film. Inspired by the videogame Stray (a cat navigating through a post-apocalyptic world) and Primal (Gennedy's no dialogue animated tv show), this strikes a chord in how storytelling can be done when you put proper care into your work. Not a single word spoken but the emotion is translated thoroughly in this one. There isn't a plot really...you're just watching these animals survive various situations while bonding and it's great cinema.

Some of the themes present are really useful at times like these. Film makes it pretty clear that at points in life you just have to go with the flow and find where you fit in life. You also have to be willing to work with others you might not consider natural friends to get tasks completed.
You see with the bird, that angering your own group is sometimes inevitable to benefit others and you will pay a big price for it.

All in all, would give this 4.5 out of 5 mics.

No Other Choice, Park Chan-wook

Its a 3.5/5 from me.
Might bump it up on future rewatches. Fresh out the theater, I thought it was solid, but not sensational. Initial reviews maybe hyped it up too much for me.

Obvious comparisons to Parasite are bound to be made.

Greed is the only thing that trickles down in capitalism. PCW warns of growing complicity under a system that is rapidly decimating the livelihoods of many, to the benefit of fewer and fewer.

Directed by long time Sean Baker collaborator, Shih-Ching Tsou.

I have to, unfortunately, preface my thoughts by stating that I hate Baker's stories. His films always struck me as being exploitative, which I have to man up and admit is likely due to the great casting and performances he has been able to bring out from his actors. Props. That shyt isn't an accident.

Nevertheless, I don't trust that shyt. I think his films tickle Hollywood in a weird way, and it irks me. I'm just not a fan.

Left Handed Girl tells the story of a family of 3 generations of women trying to make ends meet in one of Taipei's night market. Again, some excellent casting lends the film an authenticity and charm that stretches the story as far as it can go. The film is slightly under 2 hours, and I found myself amazed at how much Tsou was able to pack into the film. However, I did grow weary towards the end, as the final act began to take the form of a soap opera-esque arc, producing a weak climax.

It'll be on Netflix sooner or later. I'll give it a 2.5/5.
