fukk it, any questions about orgo or just chem in general really, I'll do my best to help you out and If I can't do it, I will happily link you to great resources where you can learn it yourself. I'm fairly knowledgeable in the area both in theory and in laboratory applications. This helps me keep fresh too. So if there are any mechanisms, reactions, theory you wanna learn, post it and I got you.

:whoa: I don't have a Ph.D so i'm sure there will be some things I cant answer, and I've forgotten to read NMRs (@MMSex :to:) and mass spec but i'm taking a class in a few weeks to relearn and how to use the NMR machines here at school. Anybody can answer stuff too!

Should be a breeze compared to your horror orgo semester :laff: You pulled through though breh. Biochem will either be really boring and easy, or really boring and hard as shyt. Depends on how Auburn does it over there.

Is there such a study in organic chemistry that shows gay relationships are anything more than a useless fetish?

You trolling breh? :lupe:

If not, organic chemistry encompasses characterization and understanding of the chemical structures and mechanisms of carbon based compounds occuring both naturally and synthetically. Wrong branch of science for that question.

But aren't we carbon based compounds? Our thoughts/reasoning/anything that makes us tick, is just chemical reactions...

Proceed. :ehh:

Not exactly the direction I want this thread to take, but I'll humor you.

We are carbon based yes, but the human body is made up of trillions of little factories called cells that produce a multitude of both organic and inorganic compounds. Its not the mission of organic chemistry to figure out how these cells come together and produce a higher organism like a human being. There are other disciplines that delve into the working of the mind and genetics, and hormonal function, etc. The human body is very complicated.

seems like what you is seek is something along the lines of neurochemistry(relatively new branch), bio / physiological chemistry or neuroscience in general...

has nothing to do with organic chemistry.

you arent understanding what organic means in this case

i do believe homosexuality is related to a pheromone disorder though :wot: which would make sense that there are animals who are similarly confused

Before I go to bed, I'll get the ball rolling

What are the differences between an organic compound, and inorganic compound?
As most of you are aware, the key component to an organic compound is the presence of a carbon atom. CO2 however (carbon dioxide) is not organic for reasons i'll make clear later. That is not the only requirement. Organic compounds in relation to their inorganic counterparts: have higher atomic weights, predominantly covalent bonding in the molecule, very low boiling points (usually below 40 C). Ionic bonding is predominantly found in inorganic compounds. Higher boiling points are found in ionic compounds due to more hydrogen bonding and increased polarity of the molecules. Inorganic compounds usually form crystal lattice structures as well in highly non directional fashion. Breaking all those extra bonds needs more energy, hence higher boiling points. Alcohols are an example of organic compounds that can hydrogen bond, but they still show mainly organic characteristics. Quick and dirty organic vs inorganic comparison.
