7/11 WWE Raw TV Rating is in, plus updated DVR viewership -

July 11: WWE Raw scored a 2.28 TV rating, rebounding from the historically-low 1.87 rating on the Fourth of July.

The 2.28 is within the range of where Raw has been since WrestleMania, as the second quarter average was a 2.33 rating.

– Raw’s three hours averaged 3.170 million viewers.

  • First Hour: 3.042 million viewers (soft start)
  • Second Hour: 3.239 million viewers
  • Third Hour: 3.231 million viewers (down from 2H, but up from 1H)
Despite WWE saving the big McMahon Family Decision for the third hour, Raw could not break the streak of 17 consecutive weeks where third hour viewership declined from the second hour.

The last time Raw did not have a third hour decline was on March 14 when WWE loaded up the show all of the WrestleMania part-timers.

Overall, Raw was up 19.3 percent in TV viewership (about 510,000 viewers) compared to the Fourth.

Raw ratings remain low even with significant hype

Even with the advertising of the announcement of both brands General Managers and a Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins title match, Raw last night did 3.16 million viewers, almost identical to the 3.17 million from last week.

The show was probably hurt by the Republican National Convention, as Fox News coverage pushed Raw down to ninth place on cable for the night when it's usually been third in recent weeks.

The third hour, with the Ambrose vs. Rollins match, dropped in virtually every demo and the hour fell under 3 million viewers. Since WWE title matches on Raw are rare, this was the clearest sign perhaps ever of the lack of value to the viewing audience of the WWE title.

The title match was promoted, but not as heavily as tonight's Smackdown, which should do a big number, and they also had to promote Battleground.

It should also be noted that while cable competition was tougher, network viewing was down with the convention on so many different platforms.

The network coverage was against Raw's third hour only, with 3.64 million viewers on ABC, 2.70 million viewers no CBS, 3.91 million viewers on NBC, 3.94 million viewers on CNN and 6.35 million viewers on Fox News.

Fox News also did strong against Raw with the O'Reilly Factor doing 5.09 million viewers against hour one and The Kelly File doing 5.07 million viewers against hour two.

The three hours of Raw were:

8 p.m. 3.20 million viewers
9 p.m. 3.24 million viewers
10 p.m. 2.96 million viewers

7/18 WWE Raw TV Ratings - Raw falls despite pre-Draft hype -

July 18: The final WWE Raw before the Draft scored a 2.22 TV rating, down three percent from a 2.28 rating last week.

The overall rating was down, but key demographic ratings improved slightly from last week.

Included was males 18-34 rebounding to a five-week high point.

– Raw’s three hours averaged 3.133 million viewers, down one percent (about 37,000 viewers) from last week’s audience of 3.170 million viewers.

Raw started stronger than last week, matched last week’s second hour viewership, but fell off in the third hour. This was despite a WWE Title match, but Raw’s third hour was opposed by the peak of the Republican National Convention coverage, which drew more than 22 million viewers across all TV outlets.

  • First Hour: 3.204 million viewers
  • Second Hour: 3.236 million viewers
  • Third Hour: 2.960 million viewers (-8.5%)
This continued Raw’s streak of 19 consecutive weeks where the third hour declined from the second hour.

Caldwell’s Analysis: Disappointing rating for a show with the GMs revealed, final Raw before the Draft, and WWE Title match in the main event. The effect of three-hour Raws continues to hurt the overall show now four years into the experiment. Will things change after the Draft? We’ll see. But, there does not appear to be ratings momentum heading into next week. WWE does benefit from having a PPV on Sunday leading into next Monday’s Raw to perhaps boost interest again, like the night after Money in the Bank when Dean Ambrose won the WWE Title.
