The movies definitely, you can probably skip the Knuckles series tho since it's pretty mid and isn't really about Knuckles.

Wade isn’t gay as far as I know but he's annoying and takes up too much screen time

Just the first one? I'd honestly say the sequels are significantly better, especially Sonic 3.

The first one is more of a buddy cop type of movie, the sequels are more action oriented and a little more serious.
