i was having a bad day at my part-time job yesterday. i'm something of a salesman, calling hospitals for this software company and making most of my money off any purchases they make of a new robotic surgery platform the company i work with develops. i wasn't making any sales and just having a bad day all around. feeling like
i decided to just up and leave in the middle of my shift. my supervisor asks me, "is everything alright??"
of course, i'm just like
and ask to take the day off. so, anyway, i'm going to whole foods on my way home, and i'm walking into the grocery store, accidentally bumping into this girl who looks like nia long (no
). she drops her bag, and i'm quickly picking up these oranges that rolled out of it, profusely apologizing. she's smiling the whole time, assuring me "it's alright." she's in law school and just moved here from seattle. she said something to the effect of, "i don't know many people around here, so if you want to show me around?" and smiled. we exchanged numbers, and i'm feeling a little bit better, thinking to myself
i go into whole foods, get frozen pizza and some prepared wings (love those
). i still feel a little down and wanted to go home, blaze up and chill. walking out, i cut through the parking lot and saw something on the ground. 5 crisp $20 bills. strangely, everyone else that was walking near me didn't seem to notice. i quickly picked them up, looked to both of my sides to see if their owner was coming near me, and kept walking. no one said anything, and i was feeling like
inside.
now after that, knowing i just met this beautiful girl and came upon $100 out of the blue, i'm wondering if my luck is changing. so, i said to myself, "fukk it, i'll go back to work and see what i can drum up." my supervisor gave me a big smile when he saw me come back. "oh you're back!" i sat at my cubicle, ate my wings, logged in and started making calls. the first call i got was some small hospital out in some bumfukk region. they were already sold off my pitch without giving any objections, and they made a purchase. already i'm thinking, "what the fukk is going on?" so, i continue calling, making small but substantial sales every few calls, which is above the average in our company. as we neared the end of the shift, i had already lapped everyone in the center in terms of sales made, and the commission i collected was going to see me get a pretty healthy check next week. so, we're on the last few minutes and my next call is in a file that they refer to as "abandoned". this file is one filled with clients who left us and went elsewhere. they always put us in these files to essentially clear them out. they don't expect any sales from these and just want us to confirm that these clients are done with our company.
the very last call is some big provider in new york. i'm on the phone and they start complaining about our service and why they left us. i told them about new directions we've taken and calmly allayed their concerns, and the woman i spoke to (who was the director) complimented me on my pitch and said that they were not satisfied with the new company they had contracted. they were open to giving us another chance. my superiors are in the center listening to me and telling me to try and pitch her the biggest package we sell. i went at it, with people standing up and intently listening to what i'm saying. she's on the phone laughing and eventually agrees to come back to us for a three year contract. after i seal the deal, which is going to brings in tens of thousands to our company, the supervisor is clapping and i see a lot of
looks from some of my co-workers, who seem none too pleased that i came in and stole their shine. my supervisor says i should expect to see a big bonus in my check next week.
so, the moral of the story is. i don't believe in religion or fate or anything of the sort. but all of this happened after i left the job in the middle of shift and was pissed off. i met a dime. i found a grip of money. and i aced my sales when i returned to my shift, securing a huge bonus at the end. this literally has me going
anyone else ever experienced a day like that?
