Is this a video game or actually movie?
It's a FMV game, somewhat like a live action Dragon's Lair if you've ever played that.
Sega CD was littered with them and this was one of the most well known. However, I'm pretty sure it predates the Sega CD by several years and was originally meant for some type of VHS game system? Something like that.

Anyway, for anyone who hasn't played, it's fukking awful. The movie is actually a decently cheesy, super low budget horror flick. But if youre playing, you can't actually watch the movie cause you need to be constantly switching cameras to lay traps and get pass codes and such. It punishes you for actually trying to follow the plot.

This game actually was one of the games that essentially created the ESRB. Wh8ch is hilarious cause I'm reality it's very tame. There's kind of blood on screen for one second and that's it.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven

i remember when this first dropped on sega cd.. cause an uproar and i think even made it to the US congress floor. this was one of the first games to really start up the "video games are bad for kids and will cause them to kill" type of talk. wasn't long after this that the rating systems dropped

Edit: yup. This was the game. Amazing how far we've come. We now have games killing cops, army, kids, women, dogs, whoever. Along with fukking, cussing and everything else.

Night Trap is notorious for the controversy it brewed in 1993 due to the game's mature content. This controversy led to withdrawal of the game from the market, hearings on violent video games at the United States Senate, and contributed to the creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board(ESRB).[1] Night Trap was given a 15 certificate by the British Board of Film Classification[2], and a Mature rating by the ESRB after its creation[3], later reduced to a Teen rating for the 25th anniversary release.
