The truth is they fear us with guns but they fear us even more with organization, regardless of guns. This is one of many goals of white supremacy. If you can't eradicate the community completely, at least destroy the infrastructure for organizing towards change which was the CIAs whole bread and butter way back when and we're still affected.
As a result, hyper individualism paired with contradicting group think in our community will be the bane of true progress. We'll spend exorbitant effort to flex and prove our value and then when something bad happens (usually because we're actually seen by others and, more importantly, ourselves as low value), we'll just pray on it or blame politics without critically addressing our culture or taking any measurable action
What needs to change is our self destructive and diametrically opposing views on guns. We either denounce guns completely based on the damage it's done to our community or we're pro guns, but only to use against our own (e.g low value). Whats fukked up is one side just strengthens the other sides conviction so the net outcome is most well to do black folks who value themselves don't want to mess with guns because of stigmas and statistics (which is understandable) and end up just being unprotected on all fronts.
While organizing is ideal, it will warrant infiltration and attacks from cacs that will render it ineffective. Arming enough people in the community (assuming views can be shifted) can make some of our softer targets (children and elderly) harder to attack, knowing that there's a certain amount of gun carrying individuals in the vicinity.
