On joints like “Protect Ya Neck II The Zoo” and “Prepare For The Buddha Monk,” Ol’ Dirty b*stard was working beside his close friend and onetime protege, Buddha Monk. Sadly, due to O.D.B.’s untimely 2004 death (10 years ago tomorrow: November 14, 2004), Monk’s development never happened as planned. The Brooklyn Zu member worked, as a guest and producer on all three of Ol’ Dirty’s albums released while he was alive.

Per Amazon, and care of Grand Good, Buddha Monk (along with scholar/author Mickey Hess) has now penned a biography on his mentor and close friend. “The Dirty Version is the first biography of Hip-Hop superstar and founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, Ol’ Dirty b*stard, to be written by someone from his inner circle: his right-hand man, best friend and Chambermusik family member, Buddha Monk.”
Per a Salon book review and interview with Hess, the bio looks closely at O.D.B’s addiction, his ties to Southern New Jersey, surviving shootings, and reportedly losing his creativity late in his career, due to prison anti-psychosis prescription.
Since 1998′s The Prophecy, Budda Monk has released three albums, largely through the Chamber Musik imprint.
