I had never seen this video myself when it first dropped. I am from Toronto though so this would have only made Rap City on the rare occasion and I may have missed it. The first time I saw this video was during the time Vol. 1 dropped – they kept playing the In My Lifetime Vol. 1 commercial on BET with the Streets Is Watchin beat and that made me buy In My Lifetime Vol. 1. After that I went back and got Reasonable Doubt and was blessed.

Don't remember ever seeing this video in '96. Not saying they didn't play it on YO! MTV Raps and Rap City, I'm sure they did but I never seen it. Only knew one guy back then that had "Reasonable Doubt" too, so it's possible the video started and I was :yeshrug:and changed the station because I didn't know who it was.

I'm sure somebody will take this as me dissing Jay but like @The HONORABLE SKJ said Jay was just another rapper in '96.

Fred.

word ...nothin against JAY-Z because he is such a phenomonal rapper..

but the field was so strong back then....it was stacked with talent.....if the rap game was the NBA...then 96 WAS LIKE ONE BIG ALL STAR GAME.. :dead:

There was just sooo much fukking HEAT in the rap game as far as GOOD MUSIC :whew:

from the retail releases like IRONMAN by GHOSTFACE.....and IT WAS WRITTEN by NAS amongst a host of others like MOBB DEEP.. like the west coast as well

even the mixtape scene was crazy...i remember that year...DJ CLUE dropped two fiyah mixtapes

springtime stickup and summertime shootout

i ate good off them mixtapes for about 3 years straight after that.....didn't even need to buy an album
