Old heads, what was the reaction like when Queen Latifah dropped Black Reign?

cause that album was piff and she was rapping her ass off

was the streets fukkin with it? was it instantly hailed as a classic or was it seen as not as good as her debut?

Never heard the album a day in my life, but U.N.I.T.Y was huge at the time. Just Another Day was bangin too! I only remember those two songs cause the videos got major airplay. Queen was doing her thing on Living Single at the time the album dropped, I think they may have even played some of the videos during the Living Single time slot, just like they did some of Will's videos right after Fresh Prince.

Outside of the single the album was a sleeper which is unfortunate because it is a straight up and down classic

From the jump you could tell Treach had his hands all over it, but Queen Latifah was transitioning out of Hip Hop’s musical consciousness at the time due to her acting career, just like Will Smith. Yeah she had a big single but it seemed like Living Single distracted nikkas from giving it more attention. That’s was a weird time for Hip Hop, we didnt know how to treat multitalented stars.
