I know some say it was T.I, others say it was Jeezy :jbhmm: Then some people consider Trap a sound and point to producers like Shorty Red and Dj Toomp.

With that said, who do you think invented Trap and how so?

No one invented it per say, but the sound has its roots in a lot of shyt. Triple 6 like other have mentioned and even Master P. It’s probably better to split the shyt into modern trap, where the forefathers of the sound would be Jeezy, TI, Shawty Redd, etc...

Then you would have pre modern trap where the forefathers created the sound and content that would grow into modern trap. Those people would be 3-6, Master P, and really way too many rappers and producers to name.

shyt you can go as far back as Pusherman by Curtis Mayfield for influence on the trap sound as far as content. It’s really not a clear defined answer as to who invented trap

Cash Money is bounce, not trap :jbhmm:
Yep cash money was more of a bounce sound

U can say Nwa, Scarface, ugk, e 40 was the first rappers talking bout selling drugs

But when we say Trap we think of a certain type of music that goes with the rapper talking bout hustling and I think Master P was the first to bring it all together

People won't wanna give P props because he's known as a biter but if u think about it Master p taking all these influences and making his own sound out of it was how the Trap sound really got started

The govt but how did TI invent trap music. When NWA had a song called DopeMan. Seems more like someone redefined a title of something instead of creating it

I have to agree, there was pretty much already a dopeboy lane in hiphop. Much of it using heavy signature 808 sound, dark synth. Not sure why an Eazy-E would be that much different than Jeezy.

You have to even look out how influential Eazy was on Jeezy, and Gucci Mane once said Eazy-E would be his dream collabo.

I will say Jeezy ushered in the new era of trap as we came to know "trap". T.I was moreso in that 8-Ball/MJG lane that encompassed the drug game and player/pimp shyt etc.

That's what im thinking, a lot of the topics been in music since forever but it's just a matter of do the topics have to do with trap as a genre or more so the sound.

Also where does the word come from at all?

triple 6 mafia.
People say that but people like 8ball and Mjg should be mentioned too. Three 6 mafia maybe for the sound but they weren't talking that hustler talk really like 8ball and mjg. I feel TI may have been inspired by 8ball and mjg too tbh.

Beethoven
Because of his use of Triplets? :jbhmm:
