kinda in that stage in my life at 22, have a goal i guess but idk seems far af and i'm aware that i am my biggest obstacle in reaching that goal. idk just trynna make sure i'm good and shyt in life, but sometimes i dnt really give a fukk and just be on young/bum nikka shyt :manny: It's hard to juggle things at times and sacrificing certain things sucks but I know its needed and will pay off later (I guess my hardest thing is discipline and learning that shyt takes time, be wanting shyt to pop now lol). anyway when did shyt start clicking for yall and how was the journey before and after securing yo shyt?

I'm 33 but my soul is 68. I've always been mature for my age so I got it together (mentally) pretty early. But not early enough, sadly.

But like financially......well about 22. Well enough to take care of my needs and a bit more but not enough to have anything left. That's when you have it together; when you can take care of your priorities, wants, and still have a good amount left over.

Dating wise I'm getting there. A lot of old habits die hard.

You a young buck and you could literally fukk up everything possible for 8 more years and have PLENTY OF TIME to get back on the right track (a point often made by Gary Vee)

I more or less got my shyt together

Nice apartment
Decent-Good income
Can travel
Can shop

BUT I’m nowhere near where I want to be

As long as things MUST be done for money and money needs to be carefully or at least somewhat considered when eg booking hotels/trips and when someone still has influence on my cake.. I’m unhappy.

But some things that helped:

  • Please don’t listen to other people’s ideas for your future (parents, girlfriends) unless it is ‘we support you whatever you choose’
  • You’re young: figure out what you’re super passionate about: eg I was always passionate about video games, I loved video games and still do... so I’m now in the video game industry
  • Be willing to start at the bottom BUT make sure it’s in a field that when you end up at the top you’d be happy, you don’t want to be an expert at the wrong thing
  • Use your freedom, you can easily accept an entry-level job in another place and start and work hard and work your way up (I did this)
  • Remember: people never want to see anybody do better than them. I had to learn there are times to be the smartest person, but there are times as a black man to shut tf up because these cacs are not trying to deal with your ambition and you proving publicly that you can do this. You have to be smart. If a manager is a cac and a male, be careful. When you give feedback, it’s aggressive. When cacs give him feedback it’s insightful. I learned the hard way and I slowly learned to bite my tongue, play my role and influence projects via other people and only sometimes speak up.
‘Making it’ is very relative. You need to define for you what ‘success’ looks like. And then set goals, without them you have no way of measuring if you’re close or totally off.

Eg ‘I want to be rich’ is not a goal it’s a wish

‘I want to have $100,000 in my bank account before December 31st 2019, and I want to make all this money from writing sports articles’

Is a measurable, actionable goal

Look up ‘S.M.A.R.T.’ GOALS

And the part about wanting things to pop now, that’s normal. This is why you break goals down to small steps so you feel progress. And also: it’s ok to have lazy days, you earn them by working hard.

If you need support or anybody to mentor you, feel free to drop me a Private message and I can always make some time to give feedback/suggest ideas. If you have a successful brother-friend-acquaintance: ask them how they did it, pick their brain.

Great to see a young breh trying to make moves and me and others will for sure support you

So on point breh. Especially about the feedback thing. My manager is a young cac who came from a department he understood. He's a true geek. A Peter Parker/Harry Potter type dude. shyt gotta make sense to him. Nothing makes sense in my department so he's more open to ideas in comparison to the realm he's used to.

I'd rate threats in the workforce as

1. White Women
2. Black Women
3. Women in General
4. White Males
5. Mexicans
6. Asians of All Types
7. Africans
8. Black Males

Gotta be on your toes at all times. They hate when you can poke holes in the system. And they hate when you wake up others to the bullshyt. Handle all issues in private.

I’ll be 25 the end of this year but I feel like I need to start getting the ball moving NOW. These past 4 1/2 years were a fukking blur bro. And I have nothing to show for it but debt. :francis: I’m desperately trying to secure a bag before I turn 30. Don’t wanna be 45, :flabbynsick: as fukk, trying to to get my life together.
