On Tuesday morning, Ole Miss alumni and donors were greeted with a troubling email — one from the Ole Miss Fund that discussed leaving a portion of your money to the school in your will.

Considering the current outbreak of COVID-19, this was a bad time for the Ole Miss Fund to send out this email.

You can see the message sent to people below, via a tweet from Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio:

The mistake was an honest one, as it was a previously scheduled email. However, the timing certainly was poor. The Ole Miss Fund issued an apology for the unfortunate email on Tuesday afternoon, which you can see below:

Honest? :gucci:

Stupid mistake on their part but in the world of higher ed fundraising, these solicitations are planned months in advance (most schools run on a fiscal year, not a calendar year) Email blasts are usually sent by a 3 party vendor and It is possible that they scheduled this email and forgot about it, but that’s why you have checks and balances to prevent stupid mistakes like this. This is definitely not the time to be asking for money. Whoever dropped the ball on this should be fired for being such a dummy.
