lol @ dead presidents being one of the most played videos on mtv back then. that chit was a rap city exclusive.

It was more like a 'MTV Jams' top 100, cause damn near all the videos were moreso from like '92-'96, and 'Yo!' never played any R&B vids. It reminds me more of the era when 'Jams' became the main urban show and Yo got kicked to late Friday night.

And there were some glaring omissions... I was sure as all hell Flava In Ya Ear would be here, also Hip-Hop Hooray being nowhere to be found struck me as particularly odd.

And most of these songs/videos were dope, but the way it's put together was plain weird. It seemed like someone combed thru the list of videos that were played alot on 'Yo' and 'Jams', threw together the ones he liked most, and put em in whatever order he felt like. If it had been a sure-nuff Yo! top 100, it woulda been much different.

They did get #1 right tho'. I done seen that shyt 1000 times and it still felt like '93 when I saw it yesterday.

Dead Presidents did get a lotta play on Yo!, when it became the lil' one-hour video block or whatever (post- Fab, Ed & Dre). I don't even consider '96 part of the Yo! era tho'... that was just a time block with an occasional host.

I was strictly talking about "dead presidents".

im always on here pointing out that jay was getting mad play on mtv/bet in '96-97.

I thought they tried to relaunch Yo! in the summer of '96.

I don't remember it existing when dead presidents was out, and they dam sure didn't play it on mtv jams.
:manny:

either way, it definitely wasn't no top 100 most played video.

YEA!!! that's what I was thinking. they should've just called this the mtv jams countdown.......and even then, the list would still be weird, but at least it would've made more sense. but I see that they made the weekend into a "yo! mtv raps" lovefest, and the point of these marathons is to continue boosting its legacy. I get sick to my stomach when they try to act like **insert artist** was 1st seen on "yo! mtv raps". f*ck outta here.

yea, they had naughty's "feel me flow" and "ghetto b*stard" up there but no "hip-hop hooray"?

where was jazzy jeff & fresh prince? they were the reason that they created the show in the 1st place.

Nah, I gotta agree Yo! was pretty much THE platform. It may not have been the first rap video show ever but was the first nationwide/worldwide show to focus on hip-hop and also show the rap stars as personalities and how they dressed/talked, where they lived, etc. I can't even say it didn't do that... it was the must-see show pretty much for the first three years, before MTV started pushing it back.

im saying, I see them taking credit for being the 1st to showcase **insert artist**, when they really weren't.
