im talking about strictly rap beats. cuz if we talk r&b, timbaland takes that easy.

its a close call because the neptunes put out alot of wack radio beats and that hurt their legacy. but when it came time to produce album cuts, they outclassed timbaland.

the work neptunes put down for clipse, the star trak fam and others was crazy. meanwhile, timbaland's production hindered his artists.**cough ms jade cough**. theres a reason why :scusthov: didnt want timbaland to produce his album.

It's close, but I'd give Timbaland the edge. Timbaland's non-single Hip Hop beats are severely slept on. People usually say that Timbaland's Hip Hop productions are club beats, which is only accurate if all you've heard are the singles that he's produced. These are album gems that he's done:

Bubba Sparxxx - Nowhere - YouTube

Timbaland & Magoo - Hold On ft Wyclef - YouTube

Lil Kim Ft Lil Cease and Andrea Martin-Money Talks - YouTube

Drake- Thank Me Now - YouTube

that lil kim joint was a radio single. dope.

i wouldve rather heard an r&b singer over that drake beat. i hold timbo in higher regard as an r&b producer, which is what he really is.

the other 2 beats are just okay and mad cheesy. kinda proves my point thats hes more of a radio single guy.

How is he really an R&B producer? Sure he's done a lot of work with R&B artists, but he's also worked with a lot of Hip Hop artists. He's had about the same impact in Hip Hop as he's had in R&B, if not an even greater impact in Hip Hop. There's more Hip Hop producers influenced by Tim than R&B producers. Kanye West, Mike Will, and Bangladesh have all credited Timbaland as an influence of theirs. There's also producers like Scott Storch, Polow Da Don, and Brian Kidd who have been influenced by Timbaland as well.

he started out as an r&b producer and he cant shake that vibe when he does rap beats. hes really an r&b producer with great drums.

im not saying that hes not legendary in the rap field too. so of course hes gonna have influence, altho some of those names are better at r&b themselves(polow da don). its just that so many lines are blurred now. you even have people in this thread that are insisting on posting r&b beats when i clearly stated that this thread is strictly about rap.

teddy riley started off doing rap beats and his hottest rap tracks are more legendary than anything timbaland has ever done. yet, you rarely ever see him categorized as an rap producer. why is that?:leon:

Teddy Riley isn't categorized as a rap producer because he was a member of two huge R&B groups. Many don't associate him with Kool Moe Dee, Wrexx N Effect, or Dougie Fresh like they do Tim w/ Jay and Missy. Timbaland was helming quite a few Hip Hop albums and breaking Hip Hop acts. I'm not sure if Teddy ever fully produced or even helmed a Hip Hop album in the way he did Guy, Blackstreet, and MJ's Dangerous.

Teddy should get much more props than he does as a Hip Hop producer though. Without him, there's no Tim or Neptunes or even a Devante and many other producers. He is one of the producers in Urban music that laid the ground work for "super producer".
