The fans are NOT receptive to multiple varieties of sounds...
It's like the majority of the fans only want Vanilla Ice Cream, therefore the artists, due to financial pressures, have no choice but to produce Vanilla Ice Cream...Yes, you can add your own twist, but there is only so much creativity when your base has to be Vanilla Ice Cream...
What I am saying is back in the 90's (the pinnacle) ATCQ, DJ Unik (the work he did with 90's Bone is etched in stoned), Pete Rock, RZA, Premo, Havoc, DJ Muggs, Dr Dre, Easy Mo B, and many more prominent producers were ALL eating from producing multiple flavours...
I am NOT talking financially...I am talking about fans were appreciative of eating from multiple sources...
Imagine the internet was prominent in the 90's, our ears would have been obese from the abundance of all the flavours that were being pushed...
Now there is pretty much one flavour that is eating, the drill/trap genre...
And if the producers didn't tag their beats, you wouldn't be able to even guess which camp made the beat...But I can guess a Premo, RZA, Havoc, Dre and etc beat with no producer tags...
Hip Hop fandom has lost its flavour and swag...The fans, in general, only want a certain type...
Prodigy and Havoc couldn't afford Premo beats, so they said "f=ck it, lets do our own thing" and legends were born...Mainly because fans were receptive and respectful of that display of creativity...
But today, a new artist has to spend all his savings on a Mike Will Made It Beat, because the fans will resist anything that is not in the same vain...
