Well maybe it isn't that overlooked...it did spawn a few sequels and a remake.
I could never get into the sequels like I did the original...didn't like how they decided to take the FF route and make every sequel a new set of characters w/ some cameos or characters sharing names etc. for some loose continuity.
Game was a nice mix of classic SNES style RPG with shytty 3D inspired battles...and music was on point. I always wonder how much better it would've fared if FF7 didn't drop the same year. I remember once 7 dropped all RPGs before it were pretty much forgotten.
