I have a friend who is thinking of going to school online and studying IT security at a Post or Devry and the tuition is about 50k for a degree, i want to know do people hire guys from from online colleges, my friend is at an age 42 where i told him that the young guys out of traditional schools get hired quicker where his background is medical billing, is going to these type of online schools a waste of money or does he have a chance to get a better job?:ohhh:

They are a scam. Period. That's all I got to say. Do not let your friend go down that road. Even an associate's degree from a community college is better than degree from an online college.

I don't know but I have met people with decent gov jobs who pretty much bought a degree. Like really bought a degree. No I mean for real.

the only online schools I would go to are the ones that are affialiated with a traditional university if you get what I mean for example lets say Duke has an online program I would go, but Devry hell no and damn sure not for 50Gs

Damn near every state school has an online program that is similar if not exact to the campus program these days:mindblown: why ANYONE would go to Devry or any other for-profit school:whoa:

For this career field, sure. In IT you don't necessarily even need a degree (it helps though). So if he likes that program, and he feels its curriculum will help him learn IT, he should do fine. He should know he needs experience and certs to even get close to working in IT security though...He will start at the bottom of the totem.

What certs will he need in addition to this school?

Waste of money and not respected.

You are better off spending your money and getting some Financial Aid to go to a CC, get an associates, then transfer to a 4 year college and get your bachelors in 2 years.

Don't waste your money fattening the bank accounts of people who DON'T CARE whether you learn the material or not. They will just pass you, you'll get a job and won't know what the fukk you are doing. Plus, most jobs don't respect those degrees.

Tell him to go to CC, get an internship, and work on his BS. He'll save more money and he'll learn more.
