What are the cons to going? No hr departments hiring or are the courses flawed?

College, Inc. | FRONTLINE | PBS

Watch this documentary if you want to know in depth, but pretty much it's a waste of his time and a money sink. You can get way more education from cheaper courses from people who care about what you learn going to a normal CC with less debt. Don't get pulled into the crap that is DeVry or ITTech.

Employers will pass over your resume in favor of someone who went to a real school 9 times out of 10, and you pay WAY LESS to go to a brick and mortar institution.

I used to work for an online university. It's all bullshyt. I mean, the classes are real classes, but most of these schools aren't accredited, and there's no requirements for enrollment. So if I were to sign up someone who barely graduated from HS, and they don't graduate, the school still gets the money. The retention is VERY low. It's only beneficial for those who simply need a degree for promotional purposes. Lots of military people sign up for online classes cause they can get promoted.

Also, you need to think about the types of students these schools admit. Like @Po_pimp said, most students don't finish and the school still gets money. A lot of these schools, even if they ARE accredited get their accreditation through some dishonest grandfathering system. The doc I linked tells you how they do it. They basically buy dying schools that have low enrollment and slap their name on it, inheriting the accreditation but with no proof of standards. Then they can charge you more for a degree and they will hire teachers and fire them if they let more than 80-90% of the students fail.

This means you'll never know if you are actually learning anything. This also means that your classmates could be completely unqualified to study alongside of you. If you don't think the quality of students in your classroom makes a difference, think again. The biggest difference between a CC, 4 year school and an Ivy is not just the diversity of curriculum but the caliber of the students.

If I'm sitting next to some clown that I know is high all day, barely got through high school, doesn't study shyt yet they are passing a complex course with As and I'm getting the same grades and I'm studying my ass off I'm gonna start to question the quality of the material...especially if I hold a conversation with them and they don't know what the hell they are talking about.

You are better off doing a CC for an Associates, getting work experience and then working your way up through a Bachelors. You will throw your money after bad going to a for-profit.

They see me trolling, they hating.....
I agree that these schools are "for profit"

but isn't every school for profit?

I know n1ggas who graduated from Yale and Upenn who have like 100 thou debts.

All schools are for profit and all about that C.R.E.A.M.

Move to Cuba, UK, or Franch if u want a decent education that won't cost you an arm and a leg

All college/universities in America are nothing more than a money grabbing scam.

(btw, I'm not against higher education, I'm just against the way its done purely for $$ in the states instead of producing productive citizens)

See what CC have 2 year IT degrees and tell him to grab his Net + and Sec + certs and he should be ok.

He'll have to start at a support level or drive around doing HP/Dell repairs but at least he would have gotten his career started.

DeVry costs entirely too much for what it really offers
