Want and need aren't the same thing
Bring all the help
yeah you're not the voice of reason bro
can some1 explain why they just traded away marief morris AND a pick for Wesley Johnson??
wizards are top 5 worst nba franchise in nba history
Get under luxury tax. Save $2.5M.
Ernie Grunfeld at work for you
@NY's #1 Draft Pick
If this team was fully healthy this year, then we would have picked up Enis Kanter and/or deandre Jordan and made a serious playoff push he got a pick back and two players for Otto.
What you not talking about is how we'll be a team with cap space after next season if not sooner. We have a decent group. All it takes is chemistry. We FINALLY have a power forward or two on the roster. We kinda solid at every position and I don't see that changing regardless of our salary cap position. Unless we trying to win a championship this season or next (you think that's gonna happen?) Then it's best to build chemistry with whoever wants to be here and John will have to adapt to the culture that already exist once he gets back.. EVERYBODY EATS this way imo
Glad these dudes are getting a fresh start
That pick is top 36 protected so there's a chance it may not even convey in 2023. He traded the #3 overall pick in 2013 for a 2nd rounder in 2023. Look at that bad asset management. They could have extended Otto in 2016 for $70-75M and be well under the luxury tax.
ERNIE GRUNFELD is the reason they had no luxury tax space. HE SIGNED IAN MAHINMI FOR $64M AND DIDN'T SIGN OTTO TO AN EXTENSION BEFORE HE BECAME A RFA.
QUIT DEFENDING THIS BULLSHID.
Bobby "Stole on em" Portis
If I was defending bullshyt I'd be agreeing with you
First off, that top 36 protected means they would have to be a lottery team STILL in 5 seasons which isn't likely.
Then you say we traded a 3rd pick for a 2nd round pick like if we didn't also get a former #2 and #15 pick. You leaving that out IS THE BULLshyt. YOU ACTING LIKE WE DIDN'T UPGRADE BY DOING THAT IS THE BULLshyt Hasn't our bench played its best ball of the season after the trade (facts) and wasn't Otto coming off that bench (more facts) you think we can't sign both players for Otto money? Nah, you don't see none of that. He should have drafted Giannis instead, what a terrible human Ernie is for that
Finally you said we could have signed Otto for 75mil back in 2016, but Otto has never lived up to his draft position and wasn't even considered a "decent" player til that season. Not 75mil good, and you seem to forget Ernie had us in position financially to land Kevin Durant. It's not Ernies fault nobody on that level wanted to play with John. Ernie had us in position so please stop revising history because it's not a good look
Parker and Portis don't play defense.
And in October 2016, your idol Ernie spent all of the cap space on Mahinmi, Smith, Nicholson. Extending Otto then was the best option available to keeping an asset without letting another team pry him with a bigger offer
I mean, Chicago got rid of 2 guys they didn't want to resign anyway. Even tho Otto is very much overpaid
Otto is WAYYY overpaid. He makes $27 million next season and $28.5 million the season after.
