They chose a guy who has made millions in the defense weaponry and espionage field to steer their union in the right direction. Not only did they vet him, you had players saying they were excited about hiring him.

He played them all like a fiddle on behalf of the owners and made $3 million. Even if they force him out the damage has been done.

Long Answer - Watch the vid. Pablo goes over it. A way was paved for him to basically get hired with no competition. Seems JC Tretter worked to get Lloyd in, changing rules and shyt, before Tretter stepped down from his position in the NFLPA. Then when Lloyd became the executive director, he hired Tretter back. Tretter seems compromised. I say maybe they did vet him because Tretter obviously knew what the play was and put Lloyd in position.
