Pan-Africanism was on the rise during the 50s and especially the 60s. Back then it was about the liberation and self-determination of African countries, countries that were pre-dominately of African-descent, and of black America.

But in 2020, what will the goals of Pan-Africanism be? Are they still the same? What is its purpose now?

Please no trolling or bashing.

Creating a unique currency for ECOWAS, the Eco.

Adopting free trades agreements in these countries too.

But how does that benefit Pan-Africanism? Is Pan-Africanism really focused on making a West African currency? :wtf:
How does that benefit Pan-Africanism? :dahell:

By unifying several African economies, allowing them to prosper at the same time and strengthening their relationships through movements of goods and people. This is exactly what Pan-Africanism is and should be breh

The only 'Pan-African' thing Africa should focus on is Intra-Continental trade.
Intra-African trade: A path to economic diversification and inclusion
Can Africa do better with trade? The share of intra-African exports as a percentage of total African exports has increased from about 10 percent in 1995 to around 17 percent in 2017, but it remains low compared to levels in Europe (69 percent), Asia (59 percent), and North America (31 percent). This is an important reason to expect that trade will be a key driver of growth in Africa.

It doesn't need anything else. No superstate. No one continental currency. Just trade and to reduce corruption.

So what I'm getting from this thread is that Pan Africanism's current goals are centered around Africa specifically?

I thought the term Pan- African was invented for use in the Diaspora. Wouldn't that be more like, idk, 'intra- African'? :jbhmm:

Re: the first paragraph- not necessarily; it’s just that no one’s brought up the diaspora yet.

You thought wrong re: the latter paragraph

If you want to speak to the subject matter regarding your people, the African-Americans, I’d love to hear your insight.

I'm unclear on how black populations within white countries could possibly benefit/ engage effectively since modern Pan Africanism seems to have evolved into a state- to- state dialogue. (It wasn't that way initially. Most majority-black countries weren't even self-governed in the 19th c.)

African states need to develop policies which allow members of the African diaspora to become a part of the body-politic in Africa. African states are already doing this to an extent. You may not be aware but African states are pushing to have the African diaspora recognized as the 6th regional bloc of the United Nations.

As to what states can do themselves, they can offer members of the African diaspora:
- Citizenship
- Freedom to Travel to their countries Visa free
- Freedom to work in their countries
- Recognition of licenses and academic degrees
- Freedom to study in those countries unencumbered
