Why do some parents think that they should expose their kids to their issues so they can end up like them when they grow up? And why do folks when they realize their parent may have misguided them give up hope thinking that that has to be their fate?

my grandpa on my mothers side was a violent alcoholic marine who enjoyed killing in vietnam more than his wife and raising his four daughters. after the war he ditched our family to go start another one in the rust belt. all his daughters ended up fukked up somehow, and chasing after worthless violent men. of course in his old age, my mother thought the old man shyt gold, but i refused to have anything to do with him including attending his funeral. the man was an a$$hole.
