Patti LaBelle is setting up shop at Primary Wave as part of a deal involving the royalties from her 18-album catalog.

Among the songs included are “If Only You Knew,” the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack smash “New Attitude,” the Grammy-nominated Michael McDonald duet “On My Own" and "Lady Marmalade," which topped the chart in 1974 and was revitalized by Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink and Lil' Kim's cover for the 2001 film Moulin Rouge.

The WME-booked LaBelle remains active on the road; after a handful of U.S. shows in November and January, she'll play six gigs later that month in Australia and New Zealand—her first since 1996.

“We are so honored to be in business with a legend such as Ms. LaBelle," said Primary Wave's Steven Greener. "She's a true icon and trailblazer. We are looking forward to doing great things together.”

I mean Patti music should be left to her kids, but as long as they retain the rights to her image and life story....I can see this as a win. Her music is timeless tho.

Only way I'd sell my catalog if I have no left to eat off of it in my family.

That’s the problem. If you have more than one kid it starts fights. Kids start fighting over the rights to individual songs because everyone knows only a handful have value.

Artists have said over and over it’s much better to sell the catalog and leave the kids the money than it is to leave them the music. But of course the internet is all “generational wealth”.
