So if I book DaBaby at a 5,000 person venue and Local Joe wants to pay $3,000 to do a 15 minute opening set for him because he is mostly unknown but now 5,000 people get to see Local Joe perform and hear his music, you are saying this is stupid??
I say that this is a modern phenomenon that has been accepted and is now thought to be smart. It has cut out a money stream for up and coming artists and made promoters lazy by letting them offset their costs on gullible people. But people buy into it. Can't say I've ever seen this investment pay off.
I know people who performed and toured for years before this was a norm. Many brehs stopped performing when younger acts started accepting these pay to play gigs.
It might also sound smart to pay to work at the biggest corporation to boost your resume and undercut the competition for employment. Would it not?
Standards matter... Don't stoop till you limbo with the cock
