… about the episode when Florida kiccd JJ out the house for running numbers :mjlol:

I can see if JJ was selling dope or hitting bancs, but numbers? That was nothing but the black man’s version of the lottery. Nothing immoral about it at all

Florida was a real live goofy :dead:

Florida and Wilona agreed to bring about the demise of the black man by keeping them in poverty.

Wilona aborted her male babies and chose to raised an abused girl instead.

Thelma was never held back by her mom, she could date an African Prince, a NFL player, etc

The only problem I ever had with Florida, was choosing that White Jesus. But that was emotional watching her say, "Get the h*ll out my house J.J", while he was reaching to hug her. Tbh, that's how Black mothers were back in those days. They didn't play with those children once they crossed that line. Ask me how I know. Anyway, that, and the scene where she broke down after James' funeral, and the scene where James broke down and hugged his long lost father at the end, and the scene when the wino died on the couch towards the end, while they were singing, and having a party for him...and Michael broke down, were the most touching scenes of "Good Times" I can think of right now.

I don't think Esther Rolle had much of a problem doing the scene throwing JJ out, because off the set, I understand they didn't really like each other. I also understand Jimmy Walker didn't associate with any of them off the set, especially John Amos. Esther Rolle and John Amos despised the character of JJ, with the "Black son never being to bright in school" stereotype, plus they were completely turned off by his new punchline, "Dynomite!".

Florida also didn’t want James to hustle at the pool hall for rent money. She thought prayer was gonna magically make the rent get paid
:heh:
Don't forget about the episode when James returned that money to the grocery store and he pocketed two grand before he turned it in.

OMG the bytch was on shyt the whole episode after they gave James a 50 gift certificate for returning the money after they said it was going to be lucrative :snoop:

Florida was the fukking worst alot of undertones in that show.

Good Times wasn't suppose to have the father at all. But Esther Rolle refused to take the job, unless they gave her a husband. But I see they still found a way to portray that stereotyped Black male image.
