The only problem I ever had with Florida, was choosing that White Jesus. But that was emotional watching her say, "Get the h*ll out my house J.J", while he was reaching to hug her. Tbh, that's how Black mothers were back in those days. They didn't play with those children once they crossed that line. Ask me how I know. Anyway, that, and the scene where she broke down after James' funeral, and the scene where James broke down and hugged his long lost father at the end, and the scene when the wino died on the couch towards the end, while they were singing, and having a party for him...and Michael broke down, were the most touching scenes of "Good Times" I can think of right now.
I don't think Esther Rolle had much of a problem doing the scene throwing JJ out, because off the set, I understand they didn't really like each other. I also understand Jimmy Walker didn't associate with any of them off the set, especially John Amos. Esther Rolle and John Amos despised the character of JJ, with the "Black son never being to bright in school" stereotype, plus they were completely turned off by his new punchline, "Dynomite!".
