A poster on Reddit was fondly reminiscing about WWE in 2006. I sat there reading that post and hitting the :rudy: to the entire thing. Let me remind you all of the terrible things that happened that year:
  • CENA WINS! LOL.
  • Edge successfully cashing in his MITB contract at New Year's Revolution only to drop the belt back to Cena three weeks later.
  • HHH and HBK reform DX. They look like two sad 40-year-old men having a mid-life crisis on live television.
  • Vince starting a feud with HBK because Shawn wouldn't badmouth Bret. The whole thing lasts from Dec. 05 to Sept. 06, including a match where Vince & Shane fought HBK & "God" and also a match where Vince's bloody face was shoved into The Big Show's anus.
  • The new up & coming stable, The Spirit Squad, was promptly fed to & buried by DX.
  • RVD winning the WWE title and then getting popped by the cops for weed. He lost the belt the following week.
  • Rey Mysterio Jr. winning the World Heavyweight Championship and then jobbing every week on television until he drops the belt.
  • Randy Orton: "Eddie is not in heaven, Eddie is in hell."
  • Kane vs. "Kane."
  • Mick Foley's bizarre & confusing heel turn.
  • ECW returning to TV and immediately flopping with their first match out of the gate being The Sandman vs. The Zombie.
  • ECW December to Dismember,
  • The Undertaker vs. The Great Khali.
  • The debut of the Punjabi Prison Match.
  • Kurt Angle left the company due to his body falling apart and his addiction starting to get the best of him.
  • Trish Stratus and Lita both retired.
  • WWE promotes Brooke Hoegan's abortion of a music career.
Were there more terrible years? Probably. As someone said on the first page, 2007 is another good candidate for all time worst, but 2006 wasn't anything to write home about in a positive light.

I think long-term, they didn't have a plan for Edge. Cena/Triple H was what they wanted for WrestleMania and since Edge still had MITB, they needed a way for him to cash it in before it was too late. Then when the ratings went up, they decided to keep Edge around the main event and return to the feud later on.

Looking back, Cena/Edge should have been at WrestleMania 25. Big Show didn't need to be in that match at all.

2009-11 was probably the worst anything I’ve ever watched. Made me miss 1999-2001 WCW. Genuinely nothing redeemable about that era.

Sometimes being flat out bad is far better than being bland, boring as shyt, and mundane, and that’s exactly what 09-11 WWE was (I’d actually expand this from a portion of 2008 til up until sometime before the Shield arrived in 2012).

This is like being nostalgic for that time when you had diarrhea because it meant you got out of work or school for it. Sure no school or work is great, but you’re still pissing out your ass, and dehydrated, probably running a fever so you’re either hot or dealing with that hot one minute then freezing cold the next, hungry but also don’t want to eat because you don’t to piss it out of your ass, etc.

Late 2008 at least had Jeff Hardy making his run to the title and a great ladder match with Shawn and Jericho. By the time wrestlemania 25 season ended, we basically got a show that was both bad AND boring with nothing that seemed to matter happening on Monday nights. It’s what made me join nwg for the first time. I’m not sure we got anything good on Monday’s besides the Shawn vs taker stuff again until the rock came back or the buildup to Cena vs Punk at money in the bank. This was heel Michael Cole era after all where arguably the top or 2nd tier bad guy on the show was the play by play announcer :hhh:

I see their point, and it's a big difference between Vince's booking and Triple H's booking. Back then, the top stars were in action every week and always had something to do on pay-per-views unless they were injured. You were guaranteed to get high-profile matches every week. It went a long way in making the shows feel like they mattered. Like when Shawn Michaels needed a tag partner to go up against Chris Jericho and Lance Cade, and he ended up getting Triple H who was on SmackDown at the time. Just like that, the match felt more important because of who was in it.

Look at this past weekend. Seth won MITB with no interference from anyone, nothing to stop him. He just cost Punk his qualifying match on RAW and beat the shyt out of him. Where was Punk? He wasn't even on the show. One of your top stars and he doesn't even try to stop Seth from winning the match after getting screwed out of qualifying? Last year, he wasn't even medically cleared and he found time to screw over Drew whenever he could.

Let's put it this way: If this situation took place in 2010, Punk would have not only cost Seth the briefcase, but challenged him to a #1 contender's match tonight. Winner faces the World Heavyweight Champion at Night of Champions. Now, you have two big matches on the show that you have to see.
