it's not about objectively critiquing taste for people, in some ways it's just a push back on conspicious consumption, from celebs, you see a lot of it about tasting menu's, "ugly" shoes, and that kind of thing.
it's about people not understanding the levels of taste and also, culture and status. Jay and Beyonce aren't going to buy like a 100 m's ranch in Texas or whatever. They are going to live in the most unique and fashionable house in LA, in the most legendary neighborhoods in LA, Bel Air, and Malbu. So, it's not so much about money as it is who Jay and Beyonce are, the houses reflect their tastes, airy, minimal, sleek, brutal minimalism. They aren't going to buy like a Colonial style American house.
