I'm at the car wash right now and people are afraid to make eye contact, from the guy who asks what wash you want to the checkout girl.

People are afraid to connect anymore and have become worse at communicating (possibly due to Smart Phone Dummy Syndrome). It's pitiful, but yet super easy to dominate social situations now due to this. Within 3-5 years, if you look a person in the eye, use their name and have a modicum of confidence & charisma you will be in the top 5% of communicators.

just my 2 cents :ehh:

shyt, you accidentally make the wrong eye contact with someone, they feel compelled to strike up a conversation with you. I'm pretty selective with who I want to deal with when all this moronic attention whoring going around.
This is so damn true. Especially with white people. You lock eyes and the next thing you know you're mid deep in conversation talking about the weather in Wyoming. :snoop: I make eye contact with everyone, especially when I'm conversing with them. It's rude not to imo.

All this drip on me
That's just your experience OP. In my everyday life, I can't say I agree with your observation.

I work with cacs and there's nothing they love more than eye contact, small talk and firm handshakes. Even outside of an office setting, I haven't noticed any less eye contact or any social movement that's suggests that people are going away from it.

They're interested in ending their shift not making a connection with you
