People have to stop "prayers up" and "sending prayers"...its just a figure of speech at this point.

If there is a God or isn't a God saying "prayer's up" wouldn't matter either way right?

If there isn't one it doesn't matter
If there is one and you aren't a believer then it wouldn't matter
If there is one and you are a believer well it's his plan anyway

It's no different than saying "I'm sorry" "that's unfortunate" "wishing you the best" or cooing to a baby crying. :yeshrug:

No, it's quite different because if there is a God and you feel moved enough by someones' situation
to offer prayer for them, then that is solace for them.

Oh I agree entirely... IF there is a God.

But offering "prayers up" for solace is just a baseless gesture. Maybe not baseless entirely...but it's a very minimal gesture.

Let's say (best case scenario for a believer) two people who are both believers and there is a God. Ideal circumstance right?

Something miserable happens to Person A:

Scenario 1: Person B says "Prayers up" and prays and sends prayers for Person A. Very nice, minimal gesture.

Scenario 2: Person B says " Oh that's so terrible. What can I do to help? Can I take you out for lunch and listen to you? Is there a financial impact that I can help you out with in this time? Do you need anything? Would you like to come to X event with me tonight so you aren't alone? What do you need? How can I be of service to you in your time of need?"

Of the 2 situations... which one is more "impactful" and actually helpful?

That's what I meant. "Prayers Up" whether you are a good person, bad person, believer or non-believer is a lazy way to provide solace.

1. You are assuming that "Person B" would only do one of those situations.
1b. Honestly, some people don't want all of that in "scenario 2". So the best thing in that situation is "scenario 1".

2. If "two people are both believers and there is a God", then they both are familiar with the Word of God
which (in The Book of James) says "the prayer of a righteous man has much force" and (in Phillippians)
we should "keep an eye not just on our own interests, but those of our brothers".

So the other believer who knows his righteous brother is keeping an interest in him and sending prayers up in his behalf
is greatly appreciated.

You got this breh. Sending "prayers up" is definitely better than offering someone financial and tangible help. Word to all my brothers and sisters struggling in Houston. They don't need our money to help rebuild their lives...they need our prayers.

See, this isn't what I said...matter of fact, it's the opposite of what I said.

You want it to be one thing or the other, and it's not that.

Saying you'll send your prayers doesn't mean you don't offer anything else.
