People never talk about the downside of integration.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:

Instead of going for resources to build the black community, a lot of our elders only cared about symbolism. Going to white schools instead of getting more resources for black institutions. And eating CAC food because they said you couldn’t. Shopping at white establishments while simultaneously sending money out of black communities

People do talk about it. Enough that there is dissension between whether integration was to our benefit or not.

Black Wall Street showed us that integration was the only option they would’ve allowed us. It wasn’t the most beneficial between the two options for us, but it was the one that gave them the most influence over and thus, the one that was chosen.

I, for one, welcome our new space overlords.
Integration wasn’t a complete failure — the real issue is the mindset of “please accept me into your space, White people,” that has been passed down in Black communities for generations. Many Black people still look up to white individuals and their institutions, and it’s disappointing. We shouldn’t feel obligated to depend on or seek approval from those institutions.

White people kept control by placing certain Black leaders in authority and landlords didn’t improve housing because residents had few options. It’s like having every institution run by someone with Sheriff Clarke’s mindset. I don’t think it was a mistake, and I can’t judge people who did what they thought would give them a better life.

Because if they talk about it people wouldn't help the elite build the system of slavery.

They are still using the backs and minds of black people to build the system.

People are willingly doing it to their own detriment.

You've got black folks that are part of secret societies that are paid to continue the system.

They won't let you into politics without being a part of the system.

There’s been a very effective push from online spaces especially to convince black people they need to insulate themselves from society. On the outside the message seems productive, but I’m convinced there’s a very real malevolent intent to it as well

My grandparents never complained about integration

Has anybody here had any folks who lived through segregation look back on that era with fondness?
