If Pernell Whitaker didnt want you to him, you werent going to hit him. Dude's defense was crazy, it was so sweet to watch him. His body and head movement was unlike anything.

Pernell was probably the first boxer i've seen to make you go :ohhh: without him having to throw a punch

pernell had better defense. not a knock on floyd. but ur talking about arguably the greatest defensive fighter of all-time. pernell was the first boxer i can remember (my generation) where analysts made a bigger deal out of how much people missed him, instead of how often he hit his opponents. his opponent's connect totals looked like hockey scores in his prime.

floyd's the better offensive fighter tho. no question.

Sweetpee got hit more than floyd but his defense was more show. More amazing and more athletically spectacular. Sweetpee also had decent power. He could hit you with the 1 hitter quitter. Floyd is more technically sound, conservative.

Now only if my G ain't fukk with the nose candy.

the crazy thing about pernell: he had average power, at best. he was precise, and he could definitely knock a dude out if he caught u slippin. but he was far from a big hitter.

it didnt matter tho. fighters would try to eat his punches and walk him down (looking at u chavez), and he'd just make them miss, then make them eat some more for their trouble. fave boxer of all-time.

disagree. his defense was more show for sure. but in his prime dude did not get hit. i remember over a three fight swing his opponents were connecting at like 7-10% total, on some truly insane shyt.

i think whitaker went through a stretch where he was winning like >95% of all his rounds in all his fights. just pure shut outs. his defense was so good that it would literally freeze people out of fights to where it looked almost like he was by himself in the ring

he got robbed against Chavez.........I always thought he won that fight....

He got robbed (well, shouldn't say "robbed" as much as he should have got the decision) against De La Hoya as well when ODLH was on the come up.

And LOL @ him throwing a behind-the-back punch (around 1:54 I think) in the OP's video.

He got robbed in the first fight against Jose Luis Ramirez. Pernell didnt get a "real" loss until the Felix Trinidad fight and that was when he was past his prime and hooked on that white
