Thread inspired by @BrownSkin Intellect and his personal story about talking to an Uber Driver which touched on; American Nationalism compared to Canadian Nationalism and American Foreign Intervention/military actions.
Let's talk about things we see or experience that illustrate where government policy is falling short, media is leading us astray or company policy is being detrimental to society.
This weekend I went to Fairway to grocery shop. I shop there often and know they offer this service where you can go to their website shop online and then someone will shop for you and bring you the groceries you bought online. It's different from Fresh Direct because that's all they do. Fairway has the traditional shopping experience and they outsource the shopping and delivery to individuals who want to earn some money. Therefore, whenever I'm in Fairway shopping I also see these shoppers on their phone, checking lists and buying stuff. Their must be a time sensitive component to their job because they rush thru the shopping.
Anyway, Sunday I saw a shopper (Black woman) on her phone looking at her list and she had her seed with her who was like 2-3 years old. He was sitting in the cart asleep sitting up straight. It was weird but illustrated how tires the kid actually was. I get to check out and a nerdy white couple is behind me. In the aisle next to me is that shopper with her kid asleep. I'm not paying close attention to either party until the shopper goes off on the dude behind me. Apparently, he made a comment about her kid. I did not hear what he said. But she continues to berate this guy. He tries to explain, "I was just trying to say how cute he is . . . " She wasn't having it. She said, "I feel like spitting on you! I would but their are too many of your kind in here." And she continues yelling at dude for another minute. The white dude and his girl just ate it and didn't say anything.
I think this story illustrates:
- what a bad policy it is for Fairway to outsource the shopping/delivery to third parties. This woman should not have to do this with her son sleeping in the cart. Hire people you can offer a decent wage/benefits to if you want to do it.
- Maybe the overall minimum wage comes into play in that this woman feels the need to do this. I'm sure she has another job during the week, isn't earning enough and feels she has to do this for extra cash on the weekend.
- Race relations are terrible and the media pointing out every incident isn't helping. I didn't hear what the guy said but if he felt comfortable to same some sideways shyt to a stranger that was embolden by the current climate. And if he said something quite innocent but was taken the wrong way it also is a reaction to the current climate.
Feel free to add your own story.
