Pharrell's heartfelt interview with Oprah became the center of controversy today on Twitter, as the Internets expressed their gripe with his point of view on there being a "New Black."

"The 'New Black' doesn't blame other races for our issues," Pharrell began. "The New Black dreams and realizes that it's not a pigmentation; it's a mentality. And it's either going to work for your, or it's going to work against you. And you've got to pick the side you're gonna be on."

The producer would go on to say that he doesn't live his life "trying to be black," but he instead nurtures his interests (which can be racially ambiguous). He even cited ever-present Black inequality in his statement. Despite this, one man's opinion sparked backlash in 140 character-lengths from tons of viewers that accused Pharrell of being out of touch and worse. The discussion even sparked the #whatkindofblackareyou trending topic, so you know it's real.

I'm still focused on being me, trying to stay cool....(I've done nothing wrong)

Officer is still focused on ME because of his own interests......

Would I be going through this if I was a 20 year old white college girl.......?????


If not, how can you tell me not to be focused on color when obviously, the powers that be are driven by it

Well please explain how focusing on your own color is going to resolve the issue. There are prejudices out there, we know that. Are you going to offer a solution or just complain about the problem?

exactly. Pharrell is another silly entertainment negro whose gotten a pat on the head from white folks now he thinks racism whitesupremecy doesnt exist. Cant wait till a white girl accuses him a rape and those cacs turn on him
