In an "HBO Real Sports" interview that premieres on Tuesday, Jackson tells correspondent Andrea Kremer that Dolan never called - and he was glad.

"I wasn't gonna take that job, that's for sure," said Jackson, who played with the Knicks from 1967 to 1978.

Jackson suggests he has given a good deal of thought to coaching the Knicks - "New York is special," he says - but he dismissed the possibility of returning to Madison Square Garden because the current team is "clumsy."

"What's clumsy mean?" Kremer asked.

"Well, they don't fit together well. (Amare) Stoudemire doesn't fit well with Carmelo. Stoudemire's a really good player. But he's gotta play in a certain system and a way.

"Carmelo has to be a better passer. And the ball can't stop every time it hits his hands," Jackson continued. "They need to have someone come in that can kinda blend that group together."

At this point, Phil only would coach a team that is put together and would definitely contend for a championship. This narrows the universe of coaching jobs to about three-four in any given year. These would likely never include the Knicks.

On the other hand, it also seems like Phil is signaling to the team to get rid of Stat if they want him to seriously consider the job.

In other words, a coach that is better than Phil Jackson.

The I in Team
Most important part of the story

"But wouldn't you have been the perfect person to come in and blend all that talent together?" Kremer said. "You sort of have a good history of that."

"Yeah," Jackson agreed. "Well, it never happened."

Phil woulda took the job but he tight they never asked him. Bottom line is he know he coulda whipped the squad into shape and thinks its gonna fail without him coaching it.

He was fronting his ass off. You really think he wasnt going to take 15 mil a year? :comeon: The team is clumsly yet your coming up with such quick solutions? Usually saying their clumsy you would think them difficult to resolve. It was because if they chased Phil, they would shyt on Woody who did a great job and was favorable with the players.

Sounds like Phil is salty to me.

Yep. He's been rumored as a candidate for that job for a minute now and he never officially took himself out of the running. Then he doesn't get the job and he immediately comes out and says he never wanted the job in the first place. Brett Favre did the same thing last year. I guess it's just a trait of old white fakkits with superiority complexes.
