I didn't say you a right-winger but that whole 21-foot talking point to justify police killings comes from right-wingers. I can't help if you drank the Kool Aid.

Now answer the question. Why is it that most British cops walk around completely unarmed, in a country where criminals carry knives regularly, and yet they almost never die in stabbings and rarely ever kill men armed with knives?

If it was so impossible for cops to deal with knife-armed crooks without killing them then there'd be 100s of dead British cops every year.

But here's the problem:

American Cops will ALWAYS have the excuse of "they might have a gun".

And I'm going to be perfectly honest, I don't have a good solution to that prevailing question.

Even if you could warp reality and stave off fascists, racists, unions, politicians and the gun lobby to encourage cops to not resort to lethal force, it would all fall apart the minute one cop gets clapped responding to a DV situation and didn't draw his weapon because of rules/policy.

The cops are by and large an insular, authoritarian, violent and selfish organization BUT the pandoras box of American obsession with guns (and overall America being violent AF) means they have a justification for lethal force and this problem isn't easily solved. At least not until America fundamentally changes how we deal with poverty, education, income, etc.

I agree that there are way too many guns in the USA and that's part of the problem.

But that's bullshyt when the cops regularly shoot people (like in this case) who they KNOW don't have a gun. The threat was clearly a knife, not a gun. So they can't use that excuse.

Also, it's not like cops in the UK can just assume everyone is unarmed. There are fewer guns in the UK but there are still hundreds of thousands of guns out there. At any moment the person in front of them "may" have one. Yet they know how to avoid escalation and act the right way to keep everyone alive whether there's a gun there or not.
