For just the second time in its history, Philadelphia’s annual homicide total threatened in 2020 to reach 500, another grim marker in a year where the city has been racked by the coronavirus pandemic, economic strife, and social unrest over racial inequity.

The number of people killed last year — 499 as of late Thursday — is 40% higher than in 2019, and more than in all of 2013 and 2014 combined. The only time more people were slain in the city was in 1990, when police reported 500 homicides as violence surged alongside an intensifying crack-

Nah, a lot of the dead were latino - likely half, if not the majority. Philly has a ton of Rican gangs. Still, a good amount were black, which isn’t a good look. Philly is a fukking embarrassment to the Northeast, a sore on an otherwise great region, mirroring the worst cities in the south with its dustiness.

In 2017, the Census Bureau estimated that the racial composition of the city was 41.3% Black (non-Hispanic), 34.9% White (non-Hispanic), 14.1% Hispanic or Latino, 7.1% Asian, 0.4% Native American, 0.05% Pacific Islander, and 2.8% multiracial.


And for the record most of the homicide victims in Philly are black by far. Accept accountability my dude and move on.
