In it, this author, a Hermeticist, posits what the planet Earth actually is (itself and not just in relation to humans), who Jesus and the God of the Old Testament actually were, what humanity was created for and what forces truly govern us, how and why. In short, the idea this world is a prison/school of sorts is not far off at all.

How could you be positive without the negative of the physical world.
You need a resistance against positivity and goodness to make positivity/goodness stronger.
Just like evil grows stronger by constant push back from "good".

As far as I know you basically gotta just be a good person and try to be as close to God(the supreme being, who the demiurge is a false version of) as possible, the decalcifying pineal gland shyt, and seeking truth, being righteous, keeping your soul clean

the dualities Im talking about are like factions, nations, political parties.. stuff like that
