Phoenix Coyotes changes name to Arizona Coyotes

I have no idea why. I'm guessing they want to "expand" their fan base. It's like if you live in Arizona and are not interested in NHL hockey, changing the name to make fans in the state feel more inclusive isn't going to make a huge difference.

They are doing the reverse of what the Florida Marlins did.

Quite possibly the least popular team in a relatively unpopular sport (that I love). Been threatened with being relocated for almost a decade. Not sure how much it can help, but don't think it can possibly hurt

Besides, they don't even play in Phoenix

Yeah I would have preferred that, especially since they were the original Jets and they could have gotten their retired numbers/franchise history back. Bettman was desperate to save them tho, to the point that the league owned the team something like 3 seasons
