I listened to what Phonte had an issue with and I don't get it...

it's supposed to be a reunion album but you don't want 9th on every beat. Okay cool but then don't ask the man to be full-time with touring. It seems to me that 9th aint the easiest to work with, but Phonte has some narcissistic tendencies as well.

Have people forgotten BOTH ALBUMS FLOPPED? That was the whole deal especially with Minstrel Show. Of COURSE they're not going to get money from it. They probably OWED the label and Atlantic. As for 9th, he got paid as a producer which is completely different.

I get frustrations with not being paid, but what do you want your fans to do? If they don’t already own it they’re going to buy or stream to listen to you, that also keeps y’all in their consciousness to have them think about checking out your shows, which I assume is the one thing your get paid for.

label fights aren’t for fans to fight cuz at the end of the day the only way you win is for us to not consumer your art :dahell:

In this day and age artists can reach out DIRECTLY to their fans to let them know whats up. What LB are doing is no different that what De La Soul did the past couple of years in their fight with Tommy Boy. The end result? They got what they wanted, ownership of their most popular albums. So the strategy can work.

9th was getting paid though, lol.

Dude said he built a whole studio and started a label from funds he got from those albums, and thanked the fans. The Listening is a classic though. I copped that immediately after it dropped, and have a few copies on vinyl too. That's how much I love that album. But it seems like 9th was working privately with ABB to cut Pooh and Phonte out of bread, and that's never cool. So it's a shame they couldn't keep working together and building on that legacy. LB was a breath of fresh air for Hip Hop. Money really did them in. It's fukked up.
I have my problems with 9th but this is a wild accusation. 9th built his studios and labels off Jay and Destiny’s Child royalties. That’s where the bread was. I seriously doubt he saw way more from LB sales.

Maybe I'm just dumb or something but isn't this the type of shyt you lawyer up for and make sure all the T's are crossed and all the I's are dotted when you sign these record label contracts? Shyyt, you can't get me to sign any damn thing without me or someone (lawyer, some one with experience) looking at it. Esp if it's some type of contract.

Wayne went thru the same shyt wth Baby and his catalog/ contract. I mean, you can't just trust ppl anymore, you really gotta look over shyt.

He actually talked about it in that QLS episode, it was last year around the time Meg Thee Stallion's original contract was the hot topic. Paraphrasing: It's easy to say that from where we're sitting but you never know where that artist is in life. They could be dead ass broke and a $10k advance is like $1 million to them.

Plus these dudes was early 20s when they signed and who knows maybe the deal was reviewed by a lawyer and looked good but Beni B just ain't paying up.

It's hilarious how they don't even acknowledge 9th anymore

What’s the story from their fallout?

Quick story; the group mostly broke up, the first time, because of 9th's bullshyt. Pooh and Phonte were more or less cool afterwards. They got back together for one show, then decided to do an album, 9th brought his bullshyt, again and they moved on to be Little Brother with just two member, again.

9th's a diva :yeshrug:

EDIT:

He dipped after the first album basically.

Great point

I'm being a bit of a Pooh and Phonte apologist on this, but to be fair, 9th was only in the studio with them on their first album, and only toured with them on their first album. LB has existed way way longer without 9th being involved than with 9th involved. I think it'd be more weird if they did still talk about 9th all the time.

Which is easy to forget because he has basically all the beats on their biggest album

de la’s situation was different as you couldn’t buy or stream their music due to Tommy boy locking it up because they didn’t want to pay them. Fans didn’t have any way to affect that.

With LB - the music is available. Yet again fan consumption, or lack of it, doesn’t get them paid.

:francis:Modern day De La Soul.:mjcry:

De La never had issues with Prince Paul like LB had or has with 9th. Their split was amicable and De La wanted to prove they could do it on their own and still found success. LB NEVER reached the success level they potentially had. You could blame most of it on the label, but Phonte really burnt a lot of bridges back in the day.

Already address the de la issue. De la’s fight made it so that the music wasn’t available, it had nothing to do with fans involvement. LB needs to find a way to get their shyt pulled/stop printing if they’re going to force ownership

My bad, I replied then saw your post.

It seems like LB was really just talking the new vinyl.

Pooh just mentioned that they don't get paid off streams--which has more to do with Atlantic (who they seem cool with).

I was mainly talking about label stuff and the fact that they did not get paid for their first two albums. Agreed on the fact that Phonte did burned a shyt load of bridges.

I remember when dude bytched and moaned about the crowd not being hyped up during their performance, but went crazy during Wayne and Jeezy's part.

I'm like breh, you know this is a whole different crowd :skip:.

Yes it sucks but that's like having Jill Scott perform at the Summer Jam.
