North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Frank Beamer rolling over in his grave
Bud Foster rolling over in his grave

Va Tech was supposed to be where Clemson has been.

Vick put that school on the national stage, and they were able to recruit the best players from VA. Then it just stopped. Then Beamer got old.

Miami and Va Tech came to the ACC and were suppose to dominate every year along with Florida St. all three of those school fell off bad :snoop:

Embarrassing:scusthov:

Wtf happened to Va Tech?

Michael Vick leading them to the national title game helped them in recruiting. They gained national credibility, but they would always choke away games toward the end of the year.

They also had a streak of recruiting the top talent from the tidewater area, but a lot of them were too hood. So Beamer stopped recruiting there.

From then on it was mostly 2 and 3 star recruits. All of the best players from VA either went to UVA or left the state. But they were always good enough to go to a bowl.

Beamer retired and it was a wrap. They coach they brought in from Memphis had a nice two year run, but he never recruited the best players in Virginia. Now they got this new coach (fired the previous one). And it’s the same story.

Basically, if you can’t get the best players in your own state to come to your school, you’re not going to be very good. Not to mention you got Tennesse, North Carolina, DC, Maryland, Delaware, all in close proximity, and you can’t even steal players from those states.

It also doesn’t help that Va Tech is in Roanoke, Va, which is in the middle of nowhere. Beautiful campus, but the town itself is :scusthov:

Agree with this whole post minus the part about UVA getting the best of the best. Usually they go to Penn State or some other Power Five team that isn't as stringent academically. Only when we had Al Groh did we get consistent 4 and 5 star talent that was in the state or at least that is what I can remember from my years of being a Wahoo.

Nice combination of skillful running and good blocking. It seems like they absolutely dominated the ground.

It really is an overlooked skill what the best running backs can do in a crowd of players

Always feels like there's so much talent in that area but it's hard to get one or two programs to harness it all. Beamer had it for a minute but now...feels like everyone goes through there and plucks recruits.
